Ben Davies Reportedly Wants To Fight For Spot In Liverpool Squad

Despite not making a single appearance for Liverpool, the emergency January signing wants to stay at the club, apparently.

Listen, I’m not going to say Ben Davies has no future at Liverpool. But I am going to say that it’s not a good sign when I type “Liverpool Ben Davies” into our photo archives and only find photos of Tottenham’s Ben Davies. And it’s not just Getty Images, but his Wikipedia page still has a photo of Davies in his Preston North End kit.

So, you get a photo of Jurgen Klopp instead.

Anyway, apparently the emergency January deadline-day signing wants to stay and fight for his place in the squad. Or at least that’s the word from The Mirror.

Davies managed just eight bench appearances and zero minutes for Liverpool, which is almost impressive considering the depth of Liverpool’s injury crisis at center back. Then again, that injury crisis included Davies himself, alongside fellow emergency signing (and already departed) Ozan Kabak.

If Davies is in Klopp’s squad plans, it could say something about the ambiguity surrounding the center back depth when the new season kicks off. To put it lightly, there are question marks about all three of our top-choice center backs as they make their recoveries from their long-term injuries. Moreover, new signing Ibrahima Konaté is not without his injury concerns.

Davies would not be the first player to make a slow start for Klopp’s Liverpool, before coming into his own. He has also could be deployed at left back, if Kloppo remains unconvinced about Kostas Tsimikas’s ability to give Andy Robertson a single game off.
