Liverpool have already signed the centre half they need, bringing in Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig after triggering his £36M release clause. Next on the agenda is reinforcements in midfield and at forward.
On the latter front, one name that has gained traction in recent weeks is Leeds United’s 24-year-old Brazilian winger Raphinha. Now, there’s a new twist to the transfer tale in the form of a player who could be heading in the other direction.
That player is winger Harry Wilson, also 24 years of age and coming off a successful season on loan with Cardiff City—and a player Leeds were rumoured to have significant interest in last summer.
It’s a story that’s been pushed into the rumour mongering mainstream this week by The Mirror, and superficially it makes some sense, especially a year after the Reds sent Ki-Jana Hoever to Wolves to help get their deal for Diogo Jota done.
However, it’s worth noting that beyond being a not especially reliable source kicking things off, it comes after fan speculation and suggestion that Liverpool should try using Wilson to get a Raphinha deal done.
In short, it seems likely a case of a sketchy outlet turning fan chatter and previous rumoured interest—Raphinha to Liverpool this summer, Wilson to Leeds last—into a transfer story that might just drive a couple of clicks.
If the Reds are pushing to get a Raphinha deal done and if Leeds still want Wilson it might make some sense, but right now there’s little more here than that: a highly speculative bit of rumour mongering that might make some sense.
