Kylian Mbappé to Liverpool. I want it. You want it. The player himself probably even wants more Jurgen Klopp hugs in his life. He has been linked with a move to Merseyside for years, and that’s likely to continue, no matter how many times you tag the player with #Mbappe2021 on Twitter. Sorry.
The problem is not just the huge fee Liverpool would have to pay to get a seemingly determined PSG to the negotiating table, but also the monster salary Liverpool would have to pay the player, thereby blowing up their fairly rigid pay structure.
Well, according to one Italian journalist, the Reds are prepared to do exactly that:
‼️‼️ Confirmations coming in: #Liverpool is seriously interested in Kylian #Mbappe. The club is ready to offer a monstre salary to convince the player. Operation of more than €100M with the #PSG. ⚽️#Calciomercato #Transfers #EPL #Ligue1

To put it mildly, this seems unlikely. First of all, even in a COVID world and for a club that, frankly, doesn’t need the money, €100 million is a cut-rate fee for a player that cost €180 million in 2018. Secondly, the aforementioned “monster” salary is a serious problem for a club like Liverpool, and would likely cause quite a few behind-the-scenes headaches for current Liverpool stars when contract negotiations came up.
I’d love to live in a world where Liverpool can make this kind of move happen. Let’s be honest, the likes of PSG and Man City won’t stop spending money any time soon.
However, the Reds will need to continue living within their means, and continue outsmarting the competition in the transfer market. That means finding the next Mbappé (or, for example, Mohamed Salah), and not breaking the bank for one supremely talented and proven player.
But hey, if Mbappé wants to force a move and take a pay cut to be a Red, all the more power to him.
