Georgino Wijnaldum’s departure from midfield leaves a gaping hold in the middle of Liverpool FC’s midfield. While Thiago Alcantara looks likely to takeover that role full-time with a strong finish to this season, injuries to him, Jordan Henderson, or Fabinho could quickly see the team turn to a fourth midfield option. One like Gini who ability to be available was just remarkable, and soaked up minutes after minutes of playtime for Klopp.
Much like transfer rumours linking the club to centre-backs, the Wijnaldum conundrum has seen many transfer links to Liverpool pop up, including Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul, and Borussia Monchengladbachers Florian Neuhaus and Denis Zakaria. A new rumour from Belgian source Het Nieuwsblad claims that Liverpool has Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans on a list of targets.
Now, I’m sure Tielemans is on a list Liverpool FC have... but the question is, are Leicester City likely to sell to a fellow Premier League team that just edged them from the top four? Not likely, and even if they did, you’d likely have to break the bank like Manchester United did for Bighead Maguire. I’d say we file this under a transfer that probably should have happened before Tielemans moved to Leicester.
