After an emotional farewell on Sunday, it seems that the question of where Gini Wijnaldum will play after he departs Liverpool FC has been answered. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Gini has snubbed Bayern Munich, and will instead opt to head to Barcelona.
Georginio Wijnaldum’s agent today in Barcelona to meet with Barça. The agreement is set to be completed until June 2024, confirmed. Gini is open to accept lower salary to join #FCB, same as Sergio Agüero.

Last details to be sorted then Gini will sign as new Barça player. https://t.co/TlqznhJfBh pic.twitter.com/w4NUHZHhOR
Indeed, Gini will be part of what seems to be a free transfer platoon of sorts, joining FC Barcelona together with Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, and Memphis Depay on the list of Bosmans joining the club. There, he will reunite with his old Dutch national team boss and very successful Everton manager Ronald Koeman (who looks like he’s staying, despite some speculation about his departure). I’m going to assume the “lower salary” refers to the sum being lower than his demands, and isn’t in reference to his salary at Liverpool, because that would just be weird.
All the best, Gini, you’ll be missed. And try not to give them flashbacks to the comeback every time you smile. I would hate to see that.
