As the summer approaches, the news has begun trickling in about which players are likely to leave and which will sign new contracts or extend their current ones. Last week, we heard about Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk opening up talks this summer. It should be no surprise, then, that the next person on the list is Alisson Becker, who arrived six months after van Dijk.
And there could be no greater advertisement for a fat new contract than the game winning goal Alisson scored on Sunday against West Brom.
The Brazilian goalkeeper joined Liverpool in the summer of 2018 and currently has two years left on his initial five year contract. Liverpool have an option to extend his contract another year, but The Mirror reports that they are looking to reward his consistently top notch performances with an improved deal.
It’s hard to overstate Alisson’s importance to this side. This will be the first season of his Liverpool career when he didn’t help bring a major trophy back to Merseyside. However, despite the injuries and bad luck that plagued the team, the 28-year-old has remained a stalwart and trustworthy presence in Liverpool’s net.
After years of searching for a worthy goalkeeper, Liverpool finally found him. It’s unlikely that they will let him go any time soonl
