Liverpool and the cub’s fans have been waiting for months now to learn where midfielder Gini Wijnaldum’s future lies, with the player out of contract in the summer and linked to the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain.
They aren’t the only ones dealing with a veteran whose contract is expiring and is taking rather a while to decide where they’ll play next season, and at least one is said to have Liverpool as a potential destination: Real Betis’ Aissa Mandi.
If that name sounds familiar, it’s because the Algerian right back was linked with a move to join the Reds back in the days before Trent Alexander-Arnold had fully established himself at the position, but back then a move never materialised.
The 29-year-old is also capable of filling in at centre half and even left back, which along with his expiring contract could well make Mandi an intriguing option for Liverpool or for another one of Europe’s other top clubs this summer.
And according to Estadio Deportivo, at least, Liverpool are one of the clubs he’s considering along with Inter Milan and Lyon as he continues to weight up wages, contract length, and opportunities at playing time before making a decision.
They also say they expect a final decision within the week, which should at least mean if Liverpool are in the mix we should know the outcome sooner than later. Though of course we’ve heard the same regarding WIjnaldum for months.
