After watching Liverpool flub chance after chance against Newcastle United on Saturday, it’s no wonder that the collective interest has turned to the Reds picking up a new striker in the summer. The names will certainly start flying as the summer transfer window gets closer, but right now one player that Liverpool are said to have their eyes on is PSV forward Donyell Malen.

The 22-year-old Dutchman is a rising star in the Eredivisie. If the rumours have it right, he could be setting his sights on greener pastures come the summer time. Liverpool are said to be interested in the Malen, who will reportedly cost £25m. They lead the pack, but they aren’t the only club that have shown an interest.

According to the Dutch media, AC Milan, Barcelona and Juventus all have an interest in signing the player.

The former Arsenal youth player has scored 51 goals in his first three years at PSV, making him an exciting talent that many people have their eye on.

Whether it’s lack of confidence, fitness or strategy — or a combination of all three, Liverpool’s formerly fearsome from three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are not dazzling the way they used to. Diogo Jota has helped, especially in the early part of the season before his injury.

After the humiliating collapse of the Super League, it will be interesting to see what moves FSG will make in the transfer market and how much they are willing to spend to strengthen the team now that their potential cash cow is gone. But it’s the last week of April and there’s only five matches left in this season, so we’ll all find out soon enough.
