With rumours already swirling of a Liverpool deal to sign Ibrahima Konaté in the works, it might be time to prepare yourself for an RB Leipzig summer if you’re a Liverpool fan with claims the Reds are also interested in another Leipzig star.
That’s because Bild claim that Liverpool are one of three Premier League sides lining up to try and sign 27-year-old midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, whose contract expires in 2022 and who has signalled he doesn’t intended to sign a new one.
That would in turn mean that this summer will be Leipzig’s last chance to cash in on the highly rated Austrian international and their current captain, and the Reds are said to be interested along with Manchester United and Tottenham.
Most of the chatter in England has focused on United and Spurs, with the Reds cast as third favourites as they continue to wait on Gini Wijnaldum deciding his future and to determine just how much they might need a player like Sabitzer.
If Wijnaldum does leave, though, there would be a clear path to minutes that would make the Reds an appealing destination—though a proposed fee of €42M could prove too high in a summer where Liverpool will have bigger priorities.
