Sometimes it’s refreshing to hear a rumour about a potential add-on to Liverpool’s squad that isn’t in defense. In the spirit of depth all around for 2021, the rumours that the Reds are eyeing Leeds’ latest star, Brazilian professional Raphinha, is definitely welcome (even if it isn’t particularly likely).
The winger joined Leeds in an incredibly surprising move from Rennes last year for just £17m, which has seemed like a terrible move on Rennes’ part since Raphinha has started to show exactly what he’s made of at Leeds.
Raphinha had initially expected to finish out his time at Rennes and then make a bit for a Champions League side in England in 2021-22. Given that Goal believes Liverpool are keeping an eye on the 24-year-old, it seems like that goal may not be impossible.
Per Leeds’ boss, Marcelo Bielsa, Raphinha is absolutely everything you want in a player.
“Why has Raphinha done so well for Leeds?” Bielsa asked in a recent interview. “He’s had the opportunity to see what the Premier League is all about and then been able to do what’s required of him.”
“He’s a player with physical, technical and mental resources which have allowed him to compete and has good physical attributes for his position He’s quick and he can sustain that over a long distance. Raphinha is also a winger who can dribble and knows when to attack the space in behind. He’s a complete player.”
So far the rumours are just that. But given Liverpool’s recent troubles, a player of Raphinha’s calibre seems like an excellent addition to the squad.
