Liverpool’s newest signing, centre half Ben Davies, has officially arrived at the club from Preston North End in a deal rising to £1.6M with add-ons.
While it may be a few days before we get to see him on the pitch, when we do we know he will be wearing the number 28 for his new club. At Preston, where Davies rose through the youth ranks before establishing himself in the first team, he wore the number six.
If Davies goes on to have a significant career at Anfield, he could well end up the most decorated Red while wearing it.
According to LFC History, the number 28 has previously been worn by Alec Chamberlain, Bruno Cheyrou, Christian Poulsen, Damien Plessis, Danny Ings, Nicky Rizzo, Richie Partridge, and Stephen Warnock.
It was also worn briefly by Steven Gerrard when he first broke through to the first team.
Davies, one of the standout centre halves in the Championship, was available as the player was out of contract at the end of the current season and not expected to remain at Preston due to rumoured Scottish and bottom-half Premier League interest.
