Sepp van den Berg arrived at Anfield from PEC Zwole in the summer of 2019 as one of the Netherland’s top rated defensive prospects, but the now 19-year-old has since found minutes hard to come by at his new club.
Even with a defensive injury crisis this season, Van den Berg hasn’t appeared to be anywhere near the first team picture. Now, he could be set to solve that shortcoming and to help Liverpool bring in a first team centre half.
With the Reds on the verge of completing a deal to sign centre half Ben Davies from Preston North End, it appears part of getting that deal done was sending Van den Berg in the other direction on a half-season loan.
Further, if Van den Berg sees enough action for the Championship side in his half season there on loan, it will reportedly trigger an option allowing Preston to keep him at the club for the entirety of the 2021-22 season.
Given an easier path to first team football and senior minutes are needed for Van den Berg, this seems like a win for everybody involved.
