Liverpool need a centre half and are expected to complete the signing of Ben Davies from Preston North End before the end of the day, but it appears as though that may not be the end of the club’s defensive transfer business.
With deadline day having arrived, widespread reports in Germany are claiming a deal to sign Ozan Kabak from Schalke is at an advanced stage, with Kicker and others reporting a loan deal with a €20M purchase option.
Liverpool have been linked with the 20-year-old centre back previously, and now it appears those past rumours will turn into a completed transfer—though whether the purchase option will be mandatory or optional is as yet unclear.
In any case, Liverpool’s signing of the player appears dependant on Schalke brining in Shkodran Mustafi from Arsenal on loan, with the Gunners said to be desperate to find someone willing to take on the player.
Currently, Schalke are believed to be close to doing just that, at which point a deal between Liverpool and the Bundesliga side can go ahead and Kabak can join up with the defending Premier League Champions.
