Your Transfer Rumor Is Bullshit: Eden Hazard To Liverpool

The journalists in Spain are having a bit of fun with this one.

According to reports out of Spain, Jurgen Klopp is “a fan” of Real Madrid attacker bench warmer Eden Hazard. So, Kloppo being a fan of the Belgian, plus an upcoming need for attacking depth during AFCON, means that Liverpool are definitely signing him, right?

Well, almost certainly not.

The former Chelsea man was, once upon a time, one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in Europe. Now, in his 3rd season with the Spanish giants, Hazard has just 5 goals in 53 appearances for the club. He has 0 goals and 1 assist in 10 appearances this season.

These are, of course, massive numbers that are totally befitting of a world class player that certain, bizarre segments of Player Avatar Twitter still weirdly stan (in comparison with Mohamed Salah, of all players).

Although there’d be a temptation, were time, money, and squad limitations “not a thing,” to bring him in just to troll these people, they are all very much things.

Baffling Twitter arguments aside, I can’t see this move happening in a million years. Hazard will be 31-years-old in January, and by all appearances, seems well past his prime. Moreover, he will expect massive wages, for the world class player he was but is no longer.

Honestly, I trust both Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino—both of whom have spent years training under Klopp, in our system—than an over-the-hill Eden Hazard.

If Michael Edwards invents a time machine, maybe we can bring in peak era Hazard, which is just as realistic of an option as this transfer ever happening.
