Liverpool FC is set to continue with their youth-driven purchase spree. This time, it’s coincidentally another player with the last name Gordon, after yesterday’s Kaide Gordon news. According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are locked in a tussle with rival frenemies Everton for the services of 18-year old center-back, Kyron Gordon.
The young defender is on the brink of breaking to Chris “Three Subs” Wilder’s first-team, having been named in the squad for their FA Cup tie against Bristol Rovers earlier this month. Kyron Gordon is currently on a two-year professional deal which came into effect once his scholarship ended in July 2019.
While it’s very nice that that club is aggressive in its youth recruiting and putting the pieces for the next great Liverpool team in place... it’s also certainly puzzling that they seem to be rather disinterested in any kind of stopgap senior defensive option at all. Oh well, maybe we’ll see a Gordon/Van Den Berg backline in 2025 or something.
