For several seasons now, Kylian Mbappé has been most Liverpool fans’ white whale, the player that everyone wanted, but who always seemed just out of reach. Well, times, they are a-changing.
The World Cup-winning superstar currently plays for PSG, but Monday evening, French publication L’Equipe broke the news that both Liverpool and Real Madrid have been in constant contact with the player and club to try and make a deal.
Don’t get your hopes up on seeing Mbappé put on a red shirt this season, though. Any potential deal is said to be in advance of summer 2021. If Mbappé fails to re-sign with PSG, then the 21-year-old will be in the last year of his contract next summer. If this rumour is accurate, the Parisian powerhouse is likely looking to act early and get the biggest payout possible.
And maybe just, you know, don’t get your hopes up about it, period. This rumour is new and about as vague as a fortune teller’s reading. Mbappé is young, accomplished and one of the best players of his generation. His services will demand a very significant fee — one that FSG may not be willing to shell out. Though never doubt Michael Edwards, the patron saint of haggling.
