Rumour Mongering: Thiago Alcantara “Will Move to Liverpool”

German outlets continue to be convinced a deal is all but done. Hopefully it won’t take long now to know for sure.

The message out of Germany has remained remarkably consistent over the past month, to the point it’s difficult to imagine Thiago Alcantara not ending up at Liverpool even if sources closer to the English club remain skeptical.

Now that Bayern Munich’s Champions League campaign is over—with victory over Paris Saint-Germain and their own trophy number six on Sunday—we should at least know in fairly short order just how true those rumours have been.

For now, though, it’s still rumours. Papers linking Thiago with Anfield. Pundits talking about the move as though it’s a done deal. In this case, Der Spiegel, who have written something of a farewell to Thiago following Sunday’s match.

And part of that farewell is to note what’s next for the talented 29-year-old: Liverpool. Der Spiegel say that it is certain now that Thiago “will move to Liverpool” in order to link up with manager Jürgen Klopp. No doubts. No maybes.

We still have doubts and maybes. For one there’s The Liverpool Echo putting all their chips on a Thiago deal not happening. For another, there’s reliable journalists saying a deal can’t happen with Liverpool’s current squad composition.

With Bayern’s season finally done, though, hopefully we should finally get some real movement—whether that’s in the shape of a Liverpool deal or something else—in place of the endless rumours out of Germany.
