If the internet and football gossip sites are to believed, then Bayern Munich’s star midfielder Thiago Alcantara is already halfway through getting a Liverbird tattoo over his heart and hopping a plane to Anfield.
The 29-year-old is said to be ready to leave the Allianz Arena next season, with the Premier League as his preferred target. Thiago has one year left on his contract, making this the last chance that the German superpower has to get some money back for the player. Bayern Munich manager Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has come to terms with Thiago leaving for a rumoured €35m if they can get a bite.
Klopp, when asked about Thiago in a press conference, admitted to a polite interest in the player.
“Thiago Alcantara is a really good player. Like a lot of other players out there, I like (him) a lot. But that’s all I have to say about that,” Klopp said.
Aside from the fact that Klopp has been adamant that he is going to promote from within and do very little outside recruitment in this window, at 29-years-old, Thiago doesn’t fit the profile for a Liverpool midfield transfer target.
There’s always a possibility that they could snatch him up if they manage to work a Xherdan Shaqiri-like deal out of Bayern, but it seems like a rumour that took life post-Timo Werner.
