Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara remains the only steadily linked player to Liverpool this summer, at least since Timo Werner signed for Chelsea. Although there a lot of smoke and mirrors from all sides in transfer dealings, there’s a lot of smoke for this particular move. Many are hopeful that where there’s smoke there’s fire.
The latest rumor mongering surrounding a potential move to Merseyside for the fantastic veteran midfielder is that Liverpool want a big discount. According to German publication Bild, Bayern want £36 million for the player with only one year left on his contract. And laptop assassin Michael Edwards is reportedly angling for a half-off discount, £18 million.
Some sources close to Liverpool, including The Echo, are skeptical of the move. Not that transfer skepticism has stopped this transfer team from completing moves on the down low in the past.
Regardless of whether the Reds are in for Thiago, this particular transfer rumor is probably not true. Transfer fees are usually not so transparent in the best of times, and it doesn’t seem like Liverpool would get very far by low-balling big clubs like Bayern Munich.
