More Timo Werner release clause speculation, you ask? Why yes, of course. This time the rumours have come from our colleagues in Italy. La Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed the German striker could be signed for much less than previously reported.

If RB Leipzig were to win the Bundesliga this season then Timo’s release clause would be set at the price we’ve all seen for months: £52M. Failing that, the new information says Timo could be gone for £44M.

Leipzig are currently frozen in third place in the league, five points behind first-place Bayern Munich and set for a battle with Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach AND Bayer Leverkusen for any sustained progress when the Bundesliga resumes on May 16.

If true, Werner’s unsettled market status might explain Liverpool’s recent step back from their pursuit of the player. Michael Edwards knows all and reveals nothing.

Timo will have quite a few clubs eyeing this news hopefully and planning their future negotiation strategies with Leipzig. Inter Milan recently joined Chelsea, Bayern and Barcelona as the current other guys in the clamor for Timo. But the player has made clear his desire to move to Liverpool and play under Jürgen Klopp. He’s just been out there saying it to cameras. Unreal.

The Bundesliga restarting will attract a whole world of football fans because there will finally be actual football to watch. Now, there will also be a bunch of us focused on the side mission of following Leipzig’s remaining points tally. And I do love a meaty side mission.
