From all indications, a move for Timo Werner is still very much in the cards for Liverpool Football Club, if and when the transfer window once again becomes A Thing.
However, if there’s anything to recent rumors in young attacking players Milot Rashica and Ferran Torres, from Werder Bremen and Valencia, respectively, Liverpool could be looking into some backup plans if the deal for Werner falls through.
That brings us to Torres, a 20-year-old rising star for Valencia. Spanish publication AS is reporting that Torres is refusing to sign a new deal, which might mean he is available for less than his £88 million release clause. Additionally, Goal is reporting that Liverpool are among several major European clubs, plus Manchester United, that are interested in signing him.
Now, none of these reports are particularly well-sourced. But if things are happening behind the scenes, it could be an indication that Liverpool are either looking at backup options, or at least pretending to do so in order to secure Werner’s signature. It is also worth remembering that Mohamed Salah was a Plan B, behind Julian Brandt.
Whereas Rashica plays predominantly on the left, Torres plays mostly on the right. Not that front three positions matter all that much in Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Anyway, it’s something to think about while we eagerly await the Bundesliga’s return on Saturday, and root for anyone but Schalke.
