It looks as though Xherdan Shaqiri’s time with the Reds may be coming to an end this summer. The Swiss international has garnered quite a bit of interest from the continent, with Spanish side Sevilla said to be the most keen on the player.
All things considered, Shaqiri has probably met, though not exceeded, expectations set by his meager £13million transfer from Stoke in 2018. He never worked his way into a regular starting spot, with Klopp clearly preferring other options over the Swiss. Frequent injuries may have contributed to this.
However, when Shaqiri did have an opportunity to get on the pitch, he often played his part well, proving himself to be a useful tool in Klopp’s arsenal.
The club had no interest in a loan move for the player over the winter, so Sevilla is said to be putting together a lucrative permanent deal to lure Shaqiri away and meet FSG’s £25million valuation of the player.
Shaqiri has been a bit of a journeyman over the course of his career, having played in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, and the Swiss Super League. It may be possible that La Liga is next.
