The race is on for the signature of Birmingham wonderkid Jude Bellingham. It’s expected that when the season ends — whenever that should happen to be — the 16-year-old midfielder will strike a permanent transfer deal.
Liverpool are said to be interested in the player, but Birmingham’s £30million valuation has put them off the hunt. Klopp and the transfer committee have shown they’re willing to fork over large sums for players, but they also prefer to nurture the younger ones from their own academy instead of paying big bucks for potential.
If they lose out, it will be to Manchester United, who reportedly have shown a willingness to splash the cash.
Any deal will likely include a clause which allows the youngster to continue getting first team experience in the Championship for another season. Bellingham has made history as Birmingham FC’s youngest first team player at only 16 years and 38 days old.
It will be interesting to see how that valuation holds up in the coming months as clubs take massive financial hits all over Europe.
