Transfer rumors probably take up too much of our attention during normal footballing life. These days, the rumor seem even more ridiculous. I mean, which club in its right mind would buy a player when they don’t even know when football will resume? Club connected journalists have all basically said the same thing: no one is doing business right now.
Does that stop the rumor mongers? It does not.
Step right up Norwegian former footballer and current pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft, who believes Liverpool have the best chance to land Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. The catch? Liverpool will have to sell either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane in order to have the dough to sign the young English attacker.
Now, all the noise out of the club so far indicates that Liverpool are not going to be selling any of the front three. The understanding has long been that Klopp wants an attacker in addition to Bobby, Mo, and Sadio. Unless plans change, because of the corona virus crisis or for other reasons, it seems unlikely that Klopp will need to sell to buy.
This isn’t the first time Fjortoft has shared his opinions about Liverpool’s transfer dealings. For weeks he was convinced that Timo Werner was pretty much a done deal.
The rumor seems far more “putting two and two together” than any actual insider information. Liverpool want a new, younger attacker. They’ve been credibly linked to Werner and Sancho in the past. Dortmund’s asking price, reported to be around the €130 million range, is probably more than Liverpool will want to spend, especially in a world where all clubs are losing revenue because of the pandemic.
So. This is out there. Take it with a grain of salt. A big one.
