Rumor Mongering: Liverpool Looking To Sell Naby Keita Back To RB Leipzig

Or would that technically be a refund?

A transfer rumor. How quaint. No, more than quaint, delightful. Even if it’s probably bullshit and something I really don’t want to happen, I’m made up by this sort of wild speculation that used to be the norm on a slow football news day.

Anyway, the rumor from German publication Bild is that Liverpool are interested in selling Naby Keita back to his previous club RB Leipzig.

Keita, of course, was the highly anticipated midfielder that we had to wait a whole extra year to see on Merseyside. Unfortunately, while Keita has shown flashes of the player we all thought we were signing, injuries have greatly reduced his ability to show his obviously unique and incredible footballing talents on a regular basis for Liverpool.

Despite his recent injury track record, this transfer does not make a whole lot of sense from a Liverpool perspective. Jurgen Klopp has amassed a solid midfield during his time here, but many of those players are either expected to depart (Adam Lallana), probably nearing the end of their peak years in the next couple of seasons (Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum), or due to retire sometime this century (James Milner).

Keita, on the other hand, just turned 25 last month. There’s little doubt about his talent, and we know he combines well with Timo Werner. Timo Werner? Where’d that come from? Well, you get my point.

Now, wasn’t that a delightful distraction? Back to your regularly scheduled apocalypse.
