Rumour Mongering: Timo Werner Snubs Chelsea Approach

The German striker wants Liverpool red and not Chelsea blue according to the latest chatter.

Not only is there no football, but we don’t really have any idea when there will be or what it will look like when it’s back. A lack of football and an uncertain future doesn’t mean it’s the end of transfer rumours, though.

Fresh off an exciting (if mildly unlikely) rumour on the weekend claiming Liverpool had won the race to sign Kai Havertz comes today’s news the Reds are well in the clear to bring in fellow young German Timo Werner.

Werner to Liverpool stories are nothing new, of course, and before football went on its indefinite hiatus many thought that move was essentially wrapped up. So, on to the specific’s of today’s new Werner news.

They come from The Athletic, whose paywall may or may not convince you of their legitimacy, and claim that Chelsea have turned their attentions to Ousmane Deblele after being told Werner is set on Liverpool.

On paper one might think Liverpool’s current standing would put them well clear of Chelsea in the Werner chase, but the Blues look headed in the right direction under Frank Lampard and offer a clearer path to playing time.

As such, it’s nice to hear another transfer rumour tidbit putting the 23-year-old striker one step closer to Anfield next season. Even if we currently have no real idea when next season will be played.
