Rumor Mongering: Juventus Plot £150M Virgil van Dijk Swoop

The Italian giants are said to be keen on a move for the world’s best defender, but it seems a new deal for Liverpool is the more likely outcome.

The very first Premier League mid-winter break is upon us, and apparently the same rules apply as with international breaks. Namely, bring us all your transfer rumors!

According to The Express, Juventus is interested—to the tune of £150M—in bringing Virgil van Dijk to Italy.

The interest in Van Dijk is understandable, of course. The world-class defender recently finished second to the one and only Lionel Messi in Ballon d’Or voting. Premier League Player of the Year, UEFA Player of the Year, Back-to-back Champions League finals, a Champions League winners medal, and a Liverpool side that’s running away with the league all speak to Van Dijk’s undoubted quality.

However, it seems likely that Juve, along with any other potential suitors, will miss out on the Dutch international. According to club-connected journalist James Pearce, Van Dijk has no interest in leaving the European and World Champions. Moreover, the club are looking to tie the player down with a bumper deal over the summer.

With Gini Wijnaldum also considering a new contract with the club, it could be a lucrative summer for the Dutch Duo at Liverpool. Up the Dutch Reds, and up telling the Juves of the world to jog on.
