Hardly a day has gone by of late without some new tidbit or twist being added to the growing stack of Timo Werner to Liverpool transfer rumours, and so it’s not a surprise that today we again find the Leipzig attacker’s potential move being talked up.
The headlining update comes from the realm of self-proclaimed Twitter transfer experts and should be taken with a rather large helping of salt, and that is that the Reds have now tabled a firm offer for Werner—a five-year deal worth around £130k per week.
The source is poor, to put it mildly, and all things being equal our inclination would be to just ignore it and wait for tomorrow’s Werner chatter, only over the day similar talk has popped up elsewhere around the internet, including on Sky Sports.
There, Kaveh Solhekol paints the Reds as firm favourites with just the standard caveats. Namely whether he’s top of Jürgen Klopp’s list and, if he is, if Klopp can convince him he’ll get enough playing time given Liverpool’s current squad composition.
Hardly revelatory, then. Meanwhile, The Liverpool Echo insist that Werner’s arrival, if it happens, would mean that the club were adding to that current squad rather than rebuilding, replacing, or otherwise changing out any its component pieces.
Or: Werner, if he arrived, would allow Klopp to rotate the current front three or to at times play different formations to get all four into the lineup rather than meaning one of Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, or Roberto Firmino were set to leave the club.
Taken all together, it’s quite an awful lot of chatter we’ve gotten over the past twelve or so hours that, when you get right down to it, really doesn’t add anything especially new to this little transfer saga. So it goes and we’ll see you tomorrow, then.
