Realistically, deep down, most Liverpool fans have always known Kylian Mbappé was never going to end up at Anfield. That the young talent’s cost in transfer fee and wages would be just too high even for a club as big as the Reds.
Still, it’s been nice just to be seriously linked. To have a bit of fun with talk of #Mbappe2020 and Nike footing the bill. And this week we have a resurfacing to report, with a transfer tale out of Spain reviving a bit of Mbappe to Liverpool.
The main angle, being a Spanish report care of ElDesmarque, is of course a Spanish team. Or two. You know which two. Barcelona and Real Madrid. Neither of whom are shy about splashing the cash on a big name signing or seven.
But beyond the Spanish heavyweights, ElDesmarque claim Mbappé has been approached by two other clubs about a potential summer move: surging, all-conquering Liverpool and fallen, directionless rivals Manchester United.
Mbappé has, as per the story, also been offered a new deal by Paris Saint-Germain. For now, though, the player is said to not be seriously considering any of them, instead focusing on the season at hand—and particularly on Europe.
There, PSG are preparing for their upcoming Champions League Round of 16 tie against Dortmund as the French big spenders look to finally turn all their oil money into European success after years of failure on that front.
When that’s done, one way or another, Mbappé will turn his attention to deciding what comes next. And we remain quite certain that what comes next won’t involve a move to Liverpool. But hey, it’s still nice to be in the conversation.
