Liverpool are one of four European superpowers lined up for Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz, with the Reds set to fight it out with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona for a chance to sign the 23-year-old Spanish midfielder next summer.
That’s the story at least according to Calciomercato, who say that Napoli will be determined to try to hold on to the player they signed to a five-year deal after acquiring him from Real Betis in 2018 by triggering a €30M buyout clause.
And that, as transfer rumours go, could mean just about anything, from the player’s agent planting interest to get a raise to Napoli trying to drum up a bidding war for Ruiz to there being genuine interest from Europe’s biggest clubs.
If it’s the latter and Liverpool really are one of his main suitors, Ruiz won’t come cheap—not after he was Napoli’s star in midfield last season, making 40 appearances and recording seven goals and three assists for the Serie A side.
It’s at least as likely Liverpool aren’t interested, though, and in any case there’s a long way to go between now and next summer—but interested Reds fans can at least get a look at Ruiz on Tuesday when the sides meet in the Champions League.
