What is this madness? Another Philippe Coutinho story? I thought we were done with that guy? Well, cut us some slack, it’s still international break and we’re really dragging the bottom of the barrel for content these days.
Anyway, Coutinho. The Brazilian has just two appearances for Bayern so far—one start, and one off the bench—totalling just 100 minutes. But apparently fellow Bayern newboy Benjamin Pavard is already impressed.
“A little wizard! He is very discreet and really personable,” Pavard told Sky Sports when asked about his new teammate. “First of all, a really fine guy. And of course a very good footballer.
”It’s very hard to get him off the ball. He’s not 100 per cent yet - he probably needs some more games because he joined the team very late.
”But I’m sure, in a few weeks, we will see the world-class footballer Coutinho.
”Of course [he can make the difference]. I now know him from a few training sessions and I have no doubt about that. He has incredible quality and will show it to everyone.”
Personally, I’m more than willing to put the animosity toward Phil in the past, especially after his £142 million fee helped the Reds not just rebuild, but become objectively one of the best teams in Europe. And doubly so after last year’s defeat of his Barcelona side in the Champions League semifinal.
I can even find myself happy for him to get a move away from Camp Nou, which seemed like an absolutely toxic atmosphere. And if that move results in Phil wearing lederhosen, awkwardly holding beers, well, I’m here for it.
