Liverpool had hoped to find a new permanent home for 22-year-old Welsh winger Harry Wilson, but with no clubs willing to meet their £25M valuation, he will be given a season in the Premier League to prove his worth—either to the Reds or someone else.
To that end, Wilson today completed a season-long loan to mid-table Premier League side Bournemouth for manager Eddie Howe, with the player heading south to complete his medical while the two clubs hashed out final terms on his deal.
As with everything surrounding the club in the transfer market these days, things moved quickly and quietly for Wilson, mere hours passing between reports of a likely loan move to Bournmeouth and the official announcement a deal had been done.
Liverpool will receive a loan fee of £2.5-3M for Wilson, depending on whether he achieves certain performance bonuses. They also received assurances that he will get the minutes he needs to continue his development as a key first team player.
The loan does not include any kind of purchase option, meaning that however things go for Wilson at Bournemouth this season, he will be back next summer at which point it will again have to be determined whether his future lies at Anfield or elsewhere.
