Recent reports have suggested that Liverpool and Simon Mignolet are both content with the current situation and that the veteran goalkeeper will remain at Anfield for the 2019-20 season as Alisson Becker’s backup.
However, that hasn’t stopped the rumour mongers from claiming that Crystal Palace could make a move for the 31-year-old shot stopper, something which if true could complicate matters somewhat for the Reds.
The Evening Standard say Palace are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer and view Mignolet, who they expect would cost around £8M, as an upgrade on current options Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey.
They would also, unlike the continental sides that have at times been linked with Mignolet, have no issues matching the player’s current £60k per week Liverpool wage—in fact, he might even be in line for a raise.
Mignolet might enjoy Liverpool as a club and being a part of the current squad, but a move to Palace where he would start every week would have to be tempting if they do firm up their rumoured interest in him.
