One way or another, Rafa Camacho’s time at Liverpool appears to be drawing to a close, with word on the Liverpool end that the young wide player is unwilling to sign a new deal and rumours of interest from Sporting and Wolves.
There could be a serious new bidder in the mix, though, with a report out of Germany today claiming that Schalke 04 are in active negotiations with Liverpool as they attempt to secure the services of the promising 19-year-old.
According to Kicker, Schalke boss David Wagner has identified Camacho as a priority target. Whether it’s as a winger or fullback Kicker say they don’t know—but if they do hope to sign him, one can only imagine it’s as a winger.
That’s because Camacho’s Liverpool future appears to be coming to an end largely due to the club seeing him as a fullback while the player himself is insistent that he is a winger. That, it’s been widely reported, is why he’s not signing a new deal.
In addition to previously-linked Sporting and Wolves, Kicker also say that Benfica are interested. If true, it may not give us the answer as to where Camacho ends up, but it’s likely at least Liverpool will get their £10M asking price.
