Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Can Sign Marco Asensio for £80million

Zinedine Zidane doesn’t want him but likely neither does Jürgen Klopp.

I don’t see Liverpool making a move for Marco Asensio but when the news is all rumours we just have to get on with it. It has been said before that Jürgen Klopp would like to bring the Real Madrid player to Melwood but then there are likely many players an ambitious manager would like to work with. Asensio may be a talented attacking player that would fit into Klopp’s team perfectly but it would require a sizable amount of money for a position that doesn’t really need to be filled.

Depth is the transfer theme of this summer. And looking at the money being quoted in order to sign Asensio, it’s easy to imagine that Liverpool have zero interest in assisting Zinedine Zidane’s rebuild in Madrid.

Zidane has alerted the world that his cast-off attacker can be had for something in the vicinity of £80-88M.

With the real return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain next season and Naby Keita on the up and up, I wouldn’t predict that Klopp would sign a marquee player to upset the balance of attacking third minutes. I’d be surprised if Xherdan Shaqiri left, but if he did, that might open Klopp up to a player like Asensio. Still, £80M, I’m not seeing it.
