Rumor Mongering: AC Milan Plan Dejan Lovren Swoop

Y’all better pony up for one of the best defenders in the world.

As Liverpool reportedly debate whether defensive reinforcements are necessary this summer, it raises the question of potential outgoings. At the top of that list, if rumor mongers are to be believed, is Dejan Lovren.

According to Sky Sports in Italy, AC Milan are interested in securing the services of Degsy this summer.

There is a legitimate conversation to be had over which of Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, or Dejan Lovren should be first in line to pair Virgil van Dijk. At one point this season, Fabinho had even wandered into the conversation.

After helping to guide us to a Champions League final, and then Croatia to a World Cup final, Degsy appeared to be in with a solid shout. That is until a preseason injury moved Lovren down the pecking order.

Of course, Gomez was injured after an impressive showing, and for a while it seemed as if our centerbacks were auditioning to be Spinal Tap’s drummer.

Eventually, Matip filled in with aplomb, but the question still remains as to who is the best option if everyone is fit and firing.

While Lovren has been good for Liverpool, especially while playing alongside Van Dijk, his injury record makes it hard to rely on his services throughout a whole campaign. Although he is rarely out with long injury spells, he is consistently out for several games at a time. Moreover, he will be turning 30 next month.

With Lovren contracted until the summer of 2021, this would be a good time to offload the player, if that is something the club is considering.

On the other hand, Kloppo loves him some Degsy. So. Stay tuned.
