Coming off a disappointing season on loan with Reims in France where he only appeared in 13 Ligue 1 games, Sheyi Ojo’s future was always likely to include another loan and based on multiple reports this week that loan will be to Rangers.

The 21-year-old winger is said to have agreed to head north to join up with Steven Gerrard in the hopes of getting his stalled career back on track. To that end, he is also said to be prepared to sign a new Liverpool deal before heading off.

At least according to Football Insider, who claim that after agreeing a short-term extension last summer, Ojo is signing a new five-year Liverpool deal this time around. He will then join Rangers, who begin their pre-season on Monday.

The optimistic view will be that perhaps Ojo still has a future at Anfield, though to date, loan spells with Wigan, Wolves, Fulham, and finally Reims last season haven’t seen the promising youngster setting the football world alight.

At the least, though, it should protect Ojo’s eventual resale value, and in heading to Rangers he should at least get a fair shot at earning the significant minutes he needs under the former Liverpool captain.
