Liverpool are interested in signing Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi and could make things difficult for Bayern Munich as the Bundesliga club seek to secure the services of Chelsea’s most talented youngster.
At least that’s the story according to Sport Bild’s chief football writer, who today says that Bayern’s efforts to sign the 18-year-old haven’t put Liverpool off the possibility of keeping the young winger in England.
It’s another contender to add—or re-add, given Liverpool have been linked to him off and on in the past—to the mix after recent reports in Germany that Borussia Dortmund were also trying to get in Bayern’s way.
Chelsea face something of a conundrum when it comes to Hudson-Odoi. His talent is inarguable, but he isn’t yet the finished product and, in the midst of the top four race it’s been hard to give him the minutes he needs.
And without those minutes, they haven’t been able to sign him to a new deal that would extend his stay past 2020. Meanwhile, they face a transfer ban, meaning if they sell they won’t be able to replace him.
Chelsea almost can’t sell Hudson-Odoi given his talent and their transfer ban, but the player is fearful of getting not getting the time he needs there to develop and they could lose him for nothing after next season.
Then there’s Bayern, who are definitely interested. And there’s Liverpool, who may still be—assuming the German press aren’t talking about the Reds to try to make selling to Bayern more appealing to Chelsea.
It’s really quite the transfer saga for a player who has four goals and two assists in a little more than 800 minutes this year, and it almost doesn’t feel as though it matters how it ends—it’s just been fun to watch.
