Rumor Mongering: Naby Keita Hopes To Recruit Timo Werner

When this summer rolls around, 22-year-old RB Leipzig star striker Timo Werner will likely be a top target for many top clubs. Werner will have one year left on his contract, and it seems as if he is unwilling to extend with the energy drink sponsored club.

Liverpool have certainly had their fair share of Werner links in the past several windows, and those links are only likely to intensify until he either signs for Liverpool or somewhere else. Today we have yet another link, this time in the form of a supposed quote from Naby Keita.

“We played very well together in Leipzig, and he was one of my best friends there,” Keita said “It’s clear: If he’ll be on the move, I ask Timo to join us here at Liverpool.”

The translated quote allegedly came from Bild, but I’ve been unable to find the original source (admittedly, my German isn’t quite up to snuff). Instead I’ve seen it picked up around the usual rumor mongering sites.

So, perhaps this quote is authentic. Or perhaps not, and grew out of nothing and became a good way to get clicks. Does it even matter? Does anything matter?

If Liverpool are in for Werner, hopefully Keita can be a resource to help recruit the exciting young striker. Listen mate, Kloppo is the best, and you can’t put a price on hugs. Something to that effect.
