The 21-year-old Genk and Norway midfielder has made no secret of his fondness for Liverpool, praising the club and fans before the two sides met and then gushing about his brief post-match chat with Jürgen Klopp.
It was no surprise, then, when the talented, physically imposing young midfielder began to be seriously linked with a move to Liverpool as potential understudy and partner for Fabinho. And now, we’re beyond links.
At least if you believe RTBF host Pascal Scimè, who told Radio Napoli—another club rumoured to have interest in Berge—that Liverpool want the player in January and have had their opening bid for him rejected by Genk.
The message seems to be that for Napoli, they shouldn’t get their hopes up—because there’s a bigger club that, at least as Scimè sees it, is also a better fit stylistically for Berge who are very serious about signing him.
Whether there’s any truth to the chatter, of course, is another question entirely, but at this point it’s probably safe to assume that Berge, with his stated fondness for Liverpool, is going to continue to be talked about.
And with Liverpool expected to make a signing or two in January as Jürgen Klopp looks to reinforce his squad ahead of the spring push to break their 30-year title drought, it might not take long to know for certain.
