So, Napoli are in a bit of turmoil at the moment. The Italian club's president, the very, level-headed, Aurelio De Laurentiis has angered Carlo Ancelotti’s players by calling a training camp after Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg. The players refused and in response De Laurentiis threatened to sell his team and start over. Exciting stuff.
Napoli do have a fair few really good football players that could be available if De Laurentiis does decide to cash in on some of his more valuable assets. Liverpool have been linked with two: Lorenzo Insigne and Piotr Zielinski.
Jürgen Klopp has reportedly been interested in Insigne before. The Italian attacker is a talented player and would be good cover for Mohamed Salah but at the rumored £55M fee and for a 28-year-old, I don’t see Liverpool getting involved.
Zielinkski is another story. He’s a 25-year-old creative midfielder that may or may not have almost signed for Liverpool last summer. Klopp’s midfield is in good shape at the moment but in just another season Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum will both be in their thirties. James Milner turns 34 in January.
Zielinski has so far been uninterested in signing fresh terms with Napoli and could be moving on as early as the winter transfer window. The Polish midfielder is valued around £40M.
All this smoke from De Laurentiis is likely just for show. But it doesn’t negate the possibility that one or two of Napoli’s players could be offloaded following a very public and embarrassing episode for the club.
