Looking at what Liverpool have become since he left it, it’s probably fair to say that Emre Can made the right choice moving on from the club in 2018 when he headed to Juventus on a free transfer after refusing to sign a new deal.
Looking at the current squad, it’s hard to see where Can would have gotten significant minutes. However, it’s also fair to say his Juventus move hasn’t put him in a much better situation. Which means it’s no surprise he now wants to move on.
It’s where he wants to move on to, though, that will be getting the headlines. Because according to Tuttosport at least, where he wants to move on to is Manchester United, which if true would definitely raise more than a few eyebrows.
However, given Can is out of favour and can’t get playing time at Juventus, and given it seems clear he wouldn’t have played much if he’d stayed at Liverpool, a club like United probably are where he should be looking.
A club on the fringes of one of the big leagues’ top four, one where he could improve the squad and count on playing week in and week out—something which, at 25 years of age now and starting on his prime years, he really should be.
Historical success aside—and with that history, a storied rivalry with Liverpool—United on paper would probably be a good match for Can, and it’s likely he never played a significant enough part at Anfield for such a move to truly rankle.
Meanwhile, Tuttosport claim that if Can does get the move to United they say he wants, it could be as part of a larger deal or series of deals that could see Paul Pogba, United’s best outfield player, heading back to Serie A and joining Juventus.
