The biggest stumbling block to selling Lazar Markovic has, so far at least, been Lazar Markovic, with the 24-year-old winger seemingly content to sit out his current Liverpool deal before joining Daniel Day-Lewis in the cobbler trade.
Earlier this month, though, there were a smattering of reports that at least one club in Mexico was trying to convince him to give up his final six months in Liverpool for a new home in a warmer climate. Nothing much, though, seems to have come of that.
However, today there are fresh reports out of Turkey that Besiktas are interested in bringing him in as a mid-season reinforcement. One imagines Liverpool, at the very least, would be willing to see him go if it meant getting his wages off the books.
The question is whether after turning down the chance to go to Anderlecht over the summer in favour of playing in the Liverpool Reserves, Markovic is willing. And even then, time would be very, very tight for actually getting a deal done.
If we were betting on it, we’d probably put our money on Markovic still being on Liverpool’s books until this summer when his contract expires.
