Good morning, and welcome to transfer Deadline Day! Starting us off this morning is a rumor that Serie A runners up Napoli are interested in Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to Italian publication Gianluca Di Marzio.
Of course, the former Liverpool number one has fallen significantly down the pecking order after losing his place to Loris Karius two times in as many years. The addition of Brazilian shot stopper Alisson Becker only makes matters worse for the Belgian international.
Another former Liverpool keeper, Pepe Reina, left Napoli this summer. His replacement, 21-year-old goalie Alex Meret from Udinese, is currently unavailable to start the season because of injury. Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly looking to bring in some experienced hands in the meantime. This, according to the report, brings us to our own Belgian pear monger, Mignolet.
The Italian transfer window does not close until the end of the month, but if this is true, one imagines Ancelotti would like to get Mignolet in before the start of the season, which kicks off on August 18th.
