Options appear to be dwindling for Simon Mignolet. The Liverpool and Belgium backup shot stopper was linked to a move to Serie A runners up Napoli, but the Italian club apparently have other ideas.
Last night Sky Sports reported that Arsenal keeper David Ospina would be arriving in Rome for a medical ahead of a loan move, seemingly ruling out Mignolet. According to the report Napoli and Arsenal have agreed to a loan with an option to buy next summer.
Arsenal, like Liverpool, brought in a new goalkeeper this summer, signing Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen to compete with Petr Cech. And therefore, like Liverpool, they have a surplus of keepers. Unlike Liverpool, they seem to be actually getting rid of one of their keepers, albeit temporarily.
The Italian transfer window closes tomorrow ahead of the Serie A opening round, so it is probably too late for another link to another Italian side to emerge.
Most other European leagues close their respective windows at the end of the month, so there is still time to move one or more goalkeeper on. There were previous links to both Mignolet and Loris Karius to the Turkish side Besiktas, though those have also gone quiet in recent weeks.
