The links are extremely tenuous but they’re out there all the same and why shouldn’t we indulge ourselves a bit of fantasy from time to time. Tutto Mercato in Italy are claiming that Liverpool are laying the ground work to approach Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala about a possible transfer to Merseyside this summer. Interestingly, the report suggests Liverpool’s first phase of negotiations is to contact Dybala’s former agent, the agent who is no longer representing Dybala, in order to get an inside scoop.
True or not, the only reason we’re even here discussing this is because of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star is said to be on the move from his long-time home at Real Madrid and Juventus has emerged as a favorite to sign him. It’ll reportedly cost the Bianconeri around £88million but if the move to Turin goes through, it appears to everyone that Dybala would be the player losing minutes to Ronaldo and thus the Argentine will want to jump ship if he can.
Despite playing second fiddle to most other Argentina attackers at the World Cup, Dybala is a proven goalscorer and attacking threat. He’s a clever player, speedy and his creativity would be well suited to Jürgen Klopp’s approach. But for now, it’s all speculation that only exists inside the speculation surrounding Ronaldo. One of those Russian Matryoshka dolls comes to mind. And at the center is the teeny, tiniest bit of truth.
Juve, of course, won’t let Dybala leave for nothing and they’ll likely put up a fight in order to keep their strongest players regardless of Ronaldo coming in. But it’s the transfer window and sometimes when a big player makes a big move there are knock-on effects that put other deals in motion.
If nothing else, you can go watch some Dybala compilation videos right now and just enjoy it.
