Rumour Mongering: Pulisic To Remain At Dortmund

The young American may stay one more year with the German team.

The transfer window is only ten days from swinging shut, but the rumours keep flying for the Reds. Liverpool moved early and aggressively at the start of the summer, thanks to the deadline of the World Cup looming over them. And while the exciting prospect of Nabil Fekir moving to Anfield didn’t work out, they’ve otherwise had an objectively good window.

Still, there’s time for the transfer committee to pull one more trick out of its sleeve, and for a while, it looked like that trick could be nabbing the young American Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund and reuniting him with Klopp. Since he is refusing to negotiate with his German club for another contract, it is clear that Pulisic has his eyes on the exit. This has reportedly caught the attention of Liverpool, as well as Chelsea, who are both said to be interested in the 19-year-old.

But ESPN and others are reporting that with no official bids being made so close to the closing of the window, Pulisic is likely to stay at Dortmund until at least the January window. However, this rumour seems to imply that Dortmund won’t sell Pulisic if they don’t have time to replace him. The problem there is that while the Premier League’s summer deadline is August 9th, the Bundesliga’s doesn’t swing shut until the 31st. Therefore, should a Premier League team make an official bid, the club would still have almost three weeks to find a replacement.

Pulisic has been linked with Liverpool ever since Klopp joined, but there’s been no clear indications that the club have seriously pursued him this summer. It’s all still speculation, but the transfer committee has been pulling off some pretty spectacular surprises recently, so anything is possible.
