Having joined Liverpool from Internacional in a £500k deal in the summer of 2015 as a promising 18-year-old, Allan Rodrigues de Souza’s career in Europe hasn’t quite gone to plan, having since headed out on loan to four clubs over the past three seasons.

Now, having signed a new deal with Liverpool, he’s heading off again, joining Eintracht Frankfurt on loan for the 2018-19 season as he looks to build up enough of a track record in Europe to earn a work permit in England—and a chance to prove his worth at Anfield.

The midfielder remains a highly regarded prospect for Liverpool, but now 21 years old, Allan needs to make a mark in the Bundesliga this season for Frankfurt, who finished eighth last season and will be targeting Europa League qualification this time around.

Allan has made 55 appearances in Europe for SJK Seinajoki, Sint-Truiden, Hertha Berlin, and Apollon Limassol, scoring a goal and four assists. He will need to improve on that record as a regular starter for Frankfurt to have a shot at an English work permit next year.

A Brazil cap or two along the way wouldn’t hurt, either, though as of now that seems a long way off for a player with talent who has so far found himself short of qualification to play in England and somewhat lost in the loan system.

Hopefully, with for a solid Frankfurt side looking to push higher up the table in Germany this season, he will have found a stable if short-term home where he can impress.
