After another unfortunate error from Loris Karius, and yet another defense of the much-derided goalkeeper from Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool fans could be forgiven for hoping beyond hope that a truly world-class ‘keeper is on the summer shopping list.
So far, everything we’ve heard from the most trust-worthy sources indicates that Klopp & Co. consider the €70 million plus price tag for an Alisson-shaped goalkeeper to be better spent strengthening other areas of the squad.
Though if Klopp were to reconsider, especially in light of Karius’s pre-season mistake, it seems as if Roma are ready to part ways with their Alisson-shaped goalkeeper, if the price is right.
“He has the same chance of staying as all the other players we have not received any offers for,” Roma sporting director Monchi said in an interview.
“If one arrives, we will study it and make a decision.
“We are working out when he will return to training after his post-World Cup holiday; ready to do even better than he did last season for us.”
Liverpool, along with Chelsea and Real Madrid have all been heavily linked with the Brazilian international. However, Alisson reportedly has his heart set on Real Madrid. It’s weird that he’d willingly want to be on the receiving end of our front three again, but there you go.
The goalkeeping question is a difficult one for Kloppo. Whether it’s fair or not, each and every misstep by Karius will be amplified and criticized by the fans and media alike, and today is only a small sample of what is surely to come during the pressure cooker of Premier League and Champions League action.
Though, spending €70 million for Alisson might not be the correct answer to that question.
