The goalkeeper transfer rumours are the best rumours going right now for Liverpool. If you’re a good keeper out there in football land you have a very good chance of getting your picture in the papers this summer, juxtaposed with Jürgen Klopp or the Liverpool crest or maybe even an overhead shot of Anfield itself. Loris Karius will be mentioned in the article or blurb below your picture in as copious a quantity as is necessary for the writer or editor to better their standing amongst assholes. But you know Karius has been a solid keeper for Liverpool through the season.
Virgil Van Dijk came into the team and brought the magic thunder down, sure. Dejan Lovren had an excellent second half to the season next to Van Dijk. But the key is the defensive group and the group developed quickly together and they all had matches where they shone brighter than the others.
It’s Simon Mignolet who will be moving on from Melwood this summer. And Liverpool will indeed purchase a goalkeeper at some point during the transfer window. Mignolet had a tremendous start to his Liverpool career, saving a penalty against Stoke City on his debut. He was mobbed by his teammates. Welcome to the team, you old pear. But it’s really been an up and down journey with Mignolet ever since. He’ll move on and join a team where he’s guaranteed minutes and create a new Migs renaissance.
On the flip side, we have Alisson, the AS Roma goalkeeper in the midst of his rise to stardom. Liverpool have been linked with Alisson for a long time now. But it’s important to remember that that doesn’t mean anything. Real Madrid are also reportedly interested, as are Chelsea which is hilarious.
Our very own star Roberto Firmino is getting plenty of time with Alisson while the two are training with the Brazil squad ahead of the World Cup. Apparently, Firmino hasn’t been shy about getting in his countryman’s ear about Klopp’s work at Liverpool. And Alisson hasn’t been shy about listening.
“Yes, he asked me about Liverpool and I hope he can come here, but I know he has other proposals,” said Firmino.
“From time to time I will give him a pinch to come to Liverpool and help us, but it’s with his agents.
“It wouldn’t be bad if he came to Liverpool.”
Roma are reportedly resigned to losing Alisson this summer but are making it known that only serious offers of €70-80M will be considered and all sales are final. I bet Firmino can get that down to €25M and one free session with Bobby Firms, fashion authority.
